The Wabaunsee County Sheriff’s Office reports that an unidentified person was found deceased at the scene of a fire in Paxico on Thursday night.

According to a press release from the department, a call was received at 6:28 p.m. that there was an active fire located at the Wyldewood Cellars Winery near Paxico, Kansas, located at mile post 333 off of I-70.

Officers from the Kansas Highway Patrol and Wabaunsee County responded along with fire departments from Paxico/McFarland, Maple Hill, Alma and Wamego. Medical personnel from AMR were also on the scene.

The report says that the Kansas State Fire Marshal’s office and Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms have been contacted and are assisting with the investigation.

At this time, there is no identity or cause of death determined for the deceased individual and this is an active and ongoing investigation.
